Spent the day in Northern Kazakhstan, resting and visiting a family friend of Anitha’s – a lovely Armenian family. They fed us with every vegetarian dish they could find in Russian, Kazakh, and Armenian cuisines. Learnt a bit about their culture: adult sons wouldn’t smoke or drink in front of their father; they add two more ladles of food to your plate after you plead them to stop 😂; they live as one large family where wives of all 3 brothers and their children live together with the parents; they are offended if you attempt to open your wallet… typical Asian culture this close to Russia.
